My Take on Mentorship

Benjamin Franklin once said, “Tell me, and I forget. Teach me, and I may remember. Involve me, and I learn.”
This week, I want to talk about something that’s often overlooked: the power of mentorship. In a world filled with YouTube tutorials, online guides, and endless blog posts, it’s easy to believe we can learn everything on our own. But the truth is, nothing compares to hands-on guidance from someone who's been there before. People often say there’s no shortcut to success. But I’d argue that if there is one, it’s mentorship.
For much of my entrepreneurial journey, I believed I could figure it all out by myself. I read books, watched videos, and studied hard but something was missing. I needed someone to talk to during the hard decisions. Someone who wasn’t a parent or a friend, but someone who could offer unbiased insight. That’s when I started looking for mentors. People who had already done what I wanted to do.
Eventually, I was accepted into the Young Entrepreneurs Academy, and that changed everything. I learned how to run a business more effectively and, in the process, I launched a second business focused on mentoring people in arts and crafts. That experience showed me the impact mentorship can make. Not just on your business, but on your confidence and clarity.
One important lesson I’ve learned: mentors don’t always come from your immediate circle. Sometimes they’re complete strangers who become trusted guides. When I started, I didn’t even know what I needed help with. But once I had someone to consult, I started noticing small problems, decisions I could talk through, blind spots I could fix.
So, here’s my message to you:
Don’t underestimate the value of hands-on guidance. Mentorship isn’t just support, it’s a launchpad.
